I was born and raised in Minot, ND home of the Norsk Hostfest which is a huge Scandinavian Festival bringing visitors from across the U.S. and from Scandinavia. I went with my family each year, visiting my grandmother at the Rommegrot booth, buying lefse and comparing it to the lefse we made, shopping the artisan market and watching the traditional dancers. My family hosted a band from Sweden and Norway who we later visited in their countries over the non night of the summer solstice. I was lucky enough to study art in college and got a start with pottery in high school, though did not begin studying Rosemaling until I was a social worker in Taos, NM. I found I needed an outlet to balance my social work career, and living in the rich cultural community of Taos inspired me to look into the artistic traditions of my own heritage. I began throwing pots again and found a way to combine functional pottery with the traditions of Rosemaling and Nordic Folk art. After 20+ years as a social worker with children and families, I am now a full time potter and Rosemaler in Taos, NM.
